How to Install Apps in Windows 8.1

Hi All,

My boss got me a new PC, its an i5 4570, 3.2Ghz, 4 cores, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD etc.

Clean install of 8.1 on this system, got all my work programs set up, however I've run into something which we're all perplexed about. I cannot install some software. The installers will launch, but they'll sit in the background and do nothing. One prime example right now is Mozilla Firefox. It just sits in the background in the processes tab and does nothing.

If anyone can think of a solution to this, that would be great. I've already done sfc, chkdsk, repaired Windows Installer, DISM Online repair.

Start the installation program in the mode "Run as Administrator", that has solved it for me mostly insuch cases.

I throw things at my monitor and by the time I get the new replacement, the install is done.

I don't have that option :D

Firefox's installer has been sitting there since 10 minutes before my post and still no dice.

ARGH its always the simple things!

Looks like I'll be turning up UAC to paranoid level.

Thanks!

You can always right-click and try two things: Run as administrator, and Troubleshoot compatibility.

I don't think I'd troubleshoot compatibility for the latest version of Firefox, but thank you for your input.

I've been finding this problem installing programs - especially with MSI files over .exe files.

I am logged in as an administrator & have also run as admin. The program gets to the status bar and stops - this has happened on a number of PCs with a number of programs.

Have you turned UAC up to maximum level?
