High Tea At Home Party Ideas

When you want to treat yourself and your friends to a fancy afternoon tea party, it is easy to recreate the elegance at home with our handy tips!

High teas are a perfect alternative to a traditional party for celebrating a Baby or Bridal Shower, or even Mother's Day!

High Tea At Home - Setting The Scene

Setting The Scene

When it comes to decorating for your high tea event, keeping it classy is key. White, pink, gold, and florals are the best colour palette for this particular style.

If the weather is nice, you can host the high tea outside or if you prefer to hold it indoors you can give the illusion of being in a royal garden by hanging flower and leaf garlands around the room. Create an air of elegance with white flowing drapes or a fabric backdrop.

Paper parasols or lace umbrellas along with old style luggage trunks or hat boxes make pretty visual props that you can decorate the area with.

High Tea At Home - Table Talk

Table Talk

High teas are best had on a long table with plenty of room for the delicious treats that will be on offer. Two trestle tables are a perfect length for about 8-12 guests, you can add more tables if you have more attendees.

Cover your table with a simple fabric tablecloth and spread a lace or hessian table runner down the centre. Place your teapots, sugar, milk, cupcake stands, and platters down the middle so your guests can easily reach the food. It is best to have multiple plates of each dish spread over the table so your guests have access to all the food on offer without having to leave their seats.

Small gold trim plates are perfect for your guests to place their chosen servings on, and gold cutlery looks divine placed next to them. Use paper doilies and decorative placemats for a lovely place setting.

If you do not have teacups and saucers on hand, most department stores will have sets in various designs, or if you want an eccentric look you can visit local second hand shops to find some treasures!

High Tea At Home - Fancy Food

Fancy Food

High tea is all about the tea, so make sure you have a selection on teas available to your guests. Whip out the classics such as English Breakfast and Earl Grey, mild and relaxing ones like Green and Chamomile, and some lovely infused teas like Raspberry and Peppermint.

Once you have the tea sorted, you will need to have the food to go with it. Keep your goodies to bite size finger foods to make it easy for your guests to continue to chatter between eating.

Little sandwiches and devilled eggs are a classic savoury addition to the spread, but it is with the sweets where you will be able to really shine! Delicately decorated cupcakes and moreish scones with jam and thick dollop cream will go down a treat, as will various tarts and slices.

If you want to get even fancier and have a knack for baking, you can make cookies and decorate them with the names of your guests for a sweet and surprising edible place card!
